The Steady Steppers™
were founded in Detroit, Michigan on April 1st 2003 by two
aspiring and passionate Steppers, Kammal Smith and Larry Collins. As
co-founders and lead instructors, Kammal, Larry and their friendly and
knowledgeable instructional staff are well known for their teaching,
Steppin’ and interpersonal skills. Their purpose was, and still is, to
promote the Step partnered dance art form to all that show an interest
and desire to ‘Step’.
Kammal and Larry enhanced
their teaching and Stepping skills with instruction, guidance,
assistance or direction from notable Chicago based Stepping icons Andre
Blackwell, Anthony “Tic Man” Allen, Donny Davis, Angie Faine, Margaret
Fisher, L.C. Henderson, Keith Hubbard, Claudell Jackson, Brian Patterson
and Cliff “Big Slim” Reynolds.
This organization has
conducted classes in Detroit and workshops across the nation with their
motto, “You’ll walk in ...
but …
You’ll step out!”.
They have conducted Stepping workshops in the cities of Akron (OH),
Baltimore (MD), Claymont (DE), Cleveland (OH), Detroit (MI), Hampton
(VA), Henderson (NC), Indianapolis (IN), Lansing (MI), Las Vegas (NV),
Miami (FL), Newport News (VA), Pensacola (FL), Richmond (VA), Toledo
(OH), Vienna (VA) and Washington D.C.
In 2004 and 2005 The
Steady Steppers ™ were awarded the Spirit of Detroit Award from the
Detroit City Council in recognition of their exceptional achievement,
outstanding leadership and dedication to improving the quality of life
in Metropolitan Detroit.
They have served as dance
competition judges over different dance categories and styles at the
annual Tri-State Connection Swing Line Youth Dance Explosion (SLYDE)
Competition in the Washington D.C. area.
Their Step teaching
skills embrace both the 6-count and 8-count instructional methods and
they have sufficient staff to accommodate the inquisitive to the
accomplished stepper.
Kammal, Larry and the
Steady Steppers associate instructors/staff/students are featured in and
offer affordably priced Stepping instructional DVD’s designed to improve
your understanding and enhance your performance of the dance when you
and your partner are on the dance floor.
Now is the time to learn
to ‘Step’. Whether it’s at a club, for a wedding, a cruise, parties or
you just want to start a new hobby for yourself. Steppin’ is a mild
form of aerobic exercise and dance lessons makes exercise fun and an
enjoyable social event any night of the week.
The Steady Steppers™
offer classes twice weekly in Detroit and they are available for
workshops, private lessons, group sessions, demonstrations and
performances locally and across the nation. |
